Luke is a bit of an athlete. Pretty much everything we did in his session had a sports theme to it. One of the beautiful things about taking sports portraits is that it gives the subject something to do with their hands. That is one of the most common questions I get. “What do I do with my hands?” So, it just kind of pushes that question aside when you have a ball or something to occupy them.
Luke wanted a shot of him with his basketball on fire.
Have we ever lit things on fire in the studio? Maybe. Did it stink to high heaven? Probably. Did our neighbors in the building appreciate it? Probably not.
We decided to try and accomplish this digitally. One of our graphic designers, Steven, put this together in no time at all and I think it looks pretty darn good. Actually, I might remember lighting a basketball on fire inside the studio once and if I’m not mistaken it pretty much looked exactly like this. However this was a lot easier to do and I didn’t have a headache after we were done, so that part was different.
See? “What do I do with my hands?” No problem.
This outfit isn’t really sports specific……..but, the shirt is made by Under Armor and this fence is a stone’s throw from a baseball field. So, technically we are still sticking with our sports theme. 🙂
Luke, you did a great job. Thanks for picking us to do your senior photos.
By the way, I really like the one in the baseball dugout.
